Peter Nogly, the German footballer who spent his entire 320-match West German top-flight career with Hamburger SV and later went on to coach, died on September 25, 2026, aged 79.
Born in Travemünde on January 14, 1947, he became closely identified with Hamburg after a long spell in the club’s shirt. Nogly also played in North America for the Edmonton Drillers and Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he helped Tampa Bay to the 1983 indoor title with a goal in the final.
At international level, he won four caps for West Germany in 1977 and had been part of the squad for UEFA Euro 1976, although he did not appear in the tournament.
