Peter Meyer (footballer, born 1940) German footballer dead at age 85

Peter Meyer, a German footballer who played as a striker, died on February 11, 2026.

Born on 18 February 1940, he spent eight seasons in the Bundesliga with Fortuna Düsseldorf and Borussia Mönchengladbach. He also made one appearance for Germany, in a UEFA Euro 1968 qualifier against Albania.

Meyer began his career with Wersten 04 and TuRU Düsseldorf before joining Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1960. With the club, he played in the 1961–62 DFB-Pokal final and later helped secure promotion to the Bundesliga in 1966. He then moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he scored a hat trick on his debut against Schalke 04.
