
Émilie Manima, a Congolese politician and former midwife, died on February 11, 2026, in Brazzaville at the age of 89.
Born in Brazzaville on March 25, 1936, she studied at the École des sages-femmes in Dakar before working as a midwife and becoming a feminist activist focused on maternal health. On January 9, 1975, President Marien Ngouabi nominated her Minister of Social Affairs, making her the first woman to serve as a government minister in the country.
