Paul William Coteus, an American electrical engineer, died on January 24, 2026, at age 72.
He worked at IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York, and was known for his work on packaging for high-performance computer systems and the BlueGene supercomputer family.
Born in Niles, Illinois, on April 29, 1953, Coteus was elevated to IBM Fellow in 2012 for his contributions to the system packaging of the BlueGene family of supercomputers. He served as chief engineer for BlueGene system development and was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 2013 for his contributions to packaging for high-performance computing systems.
