Nikolai Liutsianovich Orlov, a Russian herpetologist, died on March 25, 2026, at age 73.
He was a Soviet and Russian researcher of Southeast Asian herpetofauna, particularly that of northern Annam. Born on June 12, 1952, in Cherkasy, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union, he worked from 1970 to 1978 in the Department of Herpetology of the Leningrad Zoo.
He then joined the Laboratory of Ornithology and Herpetology of the Zoological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, later the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He graduated from the Leningrad Pedagogical Institute in 1985, became a junior research associate in 1997, and was a leading researcher by 2021.
