
Imre Taveter, an Estonian Olympic sailor who competed in the Finn class at the 2000 and 2004 Games, died on March 25, 2026, aged 58.
Born in Keila in 1967, he began sailing in the Optimist class at Kalev Yacht Club in Tallinn’s Pirita district in 1976. Taveter won the Soviet Union’s U18 Youth Championships in the Finn class in 1984 and 1985, and took the European U21 Junior Championships title in Çeşme, Turkey, in 1987.
He also won nine Estonian Championships titles in the Finn class and was ranked 445th in the world in 2022.
