Nancy Garapick Canadian swimmer, Olympic bronze medalist dead at age 64

Nancy Garapick, the Canadian swimmer and 1976 Olympic bronze medalist, died on April 6, 2026.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1961, she won two bronze medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal in the 100-metre backstroke and 200-metre backstroke. At 13, she set a world record in the 200-metre backstroke at the Eastern Canadian Swimming Championships in Brantford, Ontario, while swimming for the Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club.

She was inducted into Canada‘s Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
