Born Nyan Paw in Yangon in 1954, he was known in Myanmar’s literary world for works written under his birth name and for a career that extended from fiction to screenwriting. He studied philosophy at Yangon University and later became a screenwriter in 1992.
His brothers, Thu Maung and Maung Wunna, were also writers, and he was the son of Thadu, a film director and writer, and Khin Nyo, a school headmistress.
