Michel Debost French flutist dead at age 92

Michel Debost

Michel Debost, a French flutist, died on May 2, 2026, at age 92.

Born in Paris on January 20, 1934, he was one of the best-known flutists of the French school. He studied under Gaston Crunelle and Marcel Moyse, won first prizes at the International Competition in Geneva, the Prague Spring Festival and the Moscow Festival Competition, and received second prize at the International Competition in Munich.

Debost was principal flute in the Orchestre de Paris from its creation in 1967 until 1989 and later served as professor of flute at the Conservatoire.
