Matt Salter English former rugby union and rugby league footballer dead at age 49

Matt Salter, an English former rugby union and rugby league footballer, died on March 7, 2026, aged 49.

Born in Greenwich, London, and educated at St Dunstan’s College in London, he played rugby union and professional rugby league in the 1990s and 2000s. He represented Bristol in the Guinness Premiership, playing primarily as a flanker or in the second row.

Salter also played for Blackheath in National League 2 South and later appeared for London Broncos in the Super League, including the 1999 Rugby League Challenge Cup Final.

Matthew Salter (2 December 1976 – March 2026) was an English rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He was educated at St Dunstan’s College in London. He played for Bristol in the Guinness Premiership. He primarily played as a Flanker or in the Second Row.
