Lucien Lazare, the French–Israeli history teacher and French Resistance fighter, died on September 22, 2026, aged 101.
Born in Strasbourg on November 24, 1924, he studied at the University of Strasbourg and later became known as a historian, translator and teacher. During the German occupation, he attended secondary school in Lyon and joined the French Resistance through the Éclaireurs Israélites de France under Marc Haguenau.
He also worked to secure recognition for the Righteous Among the Nations at the Panthéon alongside Simone Veil. Lazare died in Jerusalem.
