Hurricane Fly, the Irish Thoroughbred racehorse, died on September 22, 2026, aged 22.
Foaled on April 5, 2004, he became one of the leading National Hunt horses of his era, winning the Champion Hurdle twice and racing under trainer Willie Mullins at Closutton in County Carlow, Ireland. Bred originally for flat racing, he began his career in France, where he won twice in ten starts, before being sold late in 2007 and moved to Ireland.
Ridden by Ruby Walsh, he won the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2011 and regained the title in 2013, the first horse in 38 years to do so. He also set a then-record for Grade 1 victories before being surpassed by Winx in 2019.
