Born in Sarn, South Wales, in 1947 to Irish parents, he studied at Cardiff College of Art and Design, Gloucester College of Art and Design and later at the Royal College of Art in London. Among his best-known works was Running Away with the Hairdresser, painted in 1995 and now held by National Museum Wales in Cardiff.
