Born in Bamako on September 9, 1987, he was a midfielder who began his career with AS Real Bamako in 2005 before moving on to Wydad Casablanca the following year. He also spent time on loan at Hassania Agadir in 2007, returned to Wydad in 2008, and later joined NK Istra 1961.
In his first season with Istra, he scored nine goals in 27 matches, a run that drew reported interest from Hajduk Split and Dinamo Zagreb. Traoré was also known as Kalilou Mohamed Traoré and played for the Mali national team.
