Julian Garrett dead at age 85, member of the Iowa Senate, prostate cancer

Julian Garrett, an American politician and Iowa state senator, died on June 8, 2026, at the age of 85.

Garrett represented the 11th district in the Iowa Senate after winning a special election in November 2013 following the resignation of Kent Sorenson. He was first elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2010 and served there from 2011 to 2013 as the representative from the 73rd District.

Born in Des Moines on November 7, 1940, Garrett studied at Central College and the University of Iowa College of Law.
