Josep Perarnau, a Spanish theologian, died on March 1, 2026, at the age of 97.
Born in Avinyó, Catalonia, Spain, on July 8, 1928, he was a Catalan priest, theologian and historian. Perarnau studied theology at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, the Sapienza University of Rome and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
He became a priest in Barcelona and later served as director of the seminary of theology at the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia. He was a member of the Institute of Catalan Studies and directed the Arxiu de textos catalans antics, where he carried out historical research on medieval manuscripts and unpublished works by authors including Ramon Llull and Arnau de Vilanova.
