Jorge Alonso Treviño, the Mexican politician who served as governor of Nuevo León from 1985 to 1991, died on May 29, 2026.
He was 90. Born in Monterrey on November 2, 1935, Treviño was a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party and built his career around law and public service.
He earned a law degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, later received a doctorate in administrative law from the University of Paris, and pursued postgraduate study at the University of Rome. Treviño also taught law at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, the Autonomous University of Nuevo León and the University of Monterrey, and held posts in the federal finance secretariat, where he worked with future president Miguel de la Madrid.
