John Barbour dead at age 93, Canadian actor, comedian, and television presenter

John Barbour, a Canadian actor, comedian and television presenter, died on May 10, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born Jonathan Barbour in Toronto, Ontario, on April 24, 1933, he worked extensively in the United States after moving there in the early 1960s. Barbour was known as one of the hosts of the NBC reality television series Real People, which he also helped create and co-produce.

He was the only performer on television to win Emmys for both entertainment and news shows. His credits also included hosting a local daytime talk show on KNXT in Los Angeles, co-hosting AM Chicago in 1978, hosting the pilot for The Gong Show, and appearing as a regular panelist on the 1988 Canadian version of Liar’s Club.
