Born on January 5, 1952, in Jindřichův Hradec, he became known as a political activist and author who opposed Czechoslovakia’s communist regime. Wolf was first arrested in 1978 after police found material they described as subversive and anti-socialist, and he later said his confession had been forced under pressure.

His sentence was increased after he was prosecuted for false accusation, and he spent years in prison. In later life, he remained an outspoken critic of the political circles around Charter 77 and Václav Havel.
