Gilbertson Sangma Indian footballer dead at age 70

Gilbertson Sangma, an Indian footballer who played as a forward, died on April 2, 2026.

He received his early football lessons at the Assam Police Reserve in Dergaon. Sangma began his senior career in 1973 in the Inter District Football Championships, representing Golaghat, and was selected soon after for the Assam state team in the Santosh Trophy.

In 1974–75, he scored the goal that eliminated defending champions Kerala and took Assam to the quarter-finals. He represented Assam in the Santosh Trophy for seven seasons, from 1973 to 1980.

Gilbertson Sangma (12 April 1955 – 3 April 2026) was an Indian footballer who played as a forward.
