
Gholamreza Soleimani, an Iranian military officer and senior officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who commanded the paramilitary Basij forces, died on March 17, 2026, at the age of 61–62.
He was killed in the 2026 Iran war by Israeli strikes. Born in 1964 in Farsan, Iran, Soleimani began his military career in 1982 as a Basij volunteer during the Iran–Iraq War and rose to serve as a company commander and then battalion commander.
He took part in several battles and operations during that war, including Operation Fath ol-Mobin, Operation Beit ol-Moqaddas, the Second Battle of Khorramshahr, Operation Ramadan, the Battle of the Marshes and the Siege of Basra.
