Born Geles Cabrera Alvarado in Mexico City on August 2, 1929, she built a career as a sculptor and painter working in a variety of materials. Cabrera’s artistic interests began early and were supported by her family, and she studied at the Academy of San Carlos while also training in classical and folk dance at the Escuela de Danza in the 1940s.
A museum dedicated to her work stands in the south of Mexico City.
