François Lempérière, a French civil engineer, died on January 26, 2026, at the age of 99.
He built and/or designed 15 dams in France and other countries and invented solutions including Fusegates, Piano Keys Weir, Twin Dams and Tidal Gardens. He was educated at Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.
He also served as president of HydroCoop, a nonprofit organization, and spent much of his career with GTM, where he worked on large structures in rivers and at sea.
