Félicien Kabuga, a Rwandan financier and génocidaire, died on May 16, 2026.
He was 93. Born on March 1, 1933, in Muning, Mukarange, Byumba, Ruanda-Urundi, Kabuga was a Rwandan businessman who played a major role in the run-up to the Rwandan genocide.
A multimillionaire, he was closely connected to President Juvénal Habyarimana’s Hutu Power MRND party and the Akazu, and was identified as the primary financier of Hutu extremist media outlets including RTLM radio and Kangura magazine. He was arrested by French police in Greater Paris in 2020 after 26 years as a fugitive and later transferred to The Hague, where he was declared unfit to stand trial in 2023 because of dementia.
