Eliseo Mattiacci, the Italian sculptor, died on August 25, 2019, aged 78.
Born in Cagli on November 13, 1940, he moved to Rome in 1964 and went on to make his name in Italian art through sculpture and performance. His first solo exhibition opened at La Tartaruga gallery in 1967 and included “Tubo,” a 150-meter yellow, nickel-plated iron tube intended to alter how viewers perceived the surrounding space and to invite their participation in reshaping it.
Two years later, he staged a performance at Galleria L’Attico involving a compressor that crushed a path through the gallery.
