Dai-won Moon, a South Korean-born Mexican taekwondo practitioner, died on May 16, 2026, at age 83.
Known as the Father of Mexican Taekwondo, he introduced the sport to Mexico in 1969. Moon was born in Duk Hap, a village 200 kilometers south of Seoul, became a black belt at 16, and later graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in architecture.
He also studied at Kyung Hee University and competed in American martial arts tournaments between 1963 and 1968.
