Viktor Anuškevičius, the Ukrainian politician who served as mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, died on September 15, 2026, aged 63.
Born in Vorkuta in the Komi ASSR, he later moved to Ivano-Frankivsk after military service and worked there as an engineer before entering public life. He was first elected to the Ivano-Frankivsk city council in 2002, later became head of the control commission on privatization and lease of communal property, and in 2006 won the mayoral election with 50% of the vote.
Re-elected in December 2010, he remained a prominent local political figure and also headed the Ivano-Frankivsk regional football federation.
