Aldo Naouri, a French paediatric psychologist and psychoanalyst, died on May 18, 2026, in Paris, France, aged 88.

Born in Benghazi, Italian Libya, on Dec. 22, 1937, he came from a Libyan Jewish family and was the tenth child of his illiterate widowed mother.

In 1942, his family was expelled from Libya because of their French citizenship and settled in Orléansville, French Algeria. Naouri began medical studies at the University of Franche-Comté in Besançon in 1956 and later specialized in pediatric psychology. His statements and published remarks were at times controversial, including comments that drew criticism in 2013.
