Born in Dhaka on January 1, 1956, he began working in music in the late 1970s and later became known for film compositions that included Megh Bijli Badol in 1978. Bulbul was also a freedom fighter, joining the Bangladesh Liberation War at the age of 15.
His career brought him the Ekushey Padak and Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Music Director twice, for Premer Taj Mahal in 2001 and Hajar Bachhor Dhore in 2005.
