Adolf Bauer, the German politician and longtime president of the SoVD, died on July 26, 2026, aged 86.
Born in Friesoythe on March 6, 1940, he was a member of the SPD and led the Sozialverband Deutschlands from 2003 to 2022. Before that, Bauer trained as a surveying technician and studied surveying engineering at the State Engineering Academy in Oldenburg, then completed teacher training at the University of Oldenburg between 1962 and 1965.
He taught at two schools in Bösel from 1965 to 1971 and later served as a primary school headmaster in Altjührden. From 1969 onward he was active in local politics, including long service on the Westerstede city council and the Ammerland district council, where he also chaired social committees.
