Yebrgual Melese, an Ethiopian long-distance runner, died on May 12, 2026, at the age of 36.
Born in Addis Ababa on April 18, 1990, she placed second at the 2015 Chicago Marathon. In 2016, at the 43rd Chevron Houston Marathon, Melese ran the second-fastest time ever by a woman in Houston.
She also set a course record at the 19th Shanghai International Marathon in 2018.
