Ordained first as an Episcopal priest, he became the first bishop consecrated in the newly formed Anglican Church in North America in 2009 and later served as the first bishop ordinary of the Missionary Diocese of All Saints, a non-geographic Anglo-Catholic diocese within the ACNA. Born in 1946, Ilgenfritz studied at Trinity Anglican Seminary before entering the priesthood.

His earlier work included service in youth-serving nonprofits, as chaplain at St. Jude’s Ranch for Children in Nevada, and as executive director of the Children’s Aid Society in Pennsylvania.
