Slavoljub Marjanović Serbian chess Grandmaster dead at age 71

Slavoljub Marjanović, a Serbian chess grandmaster, died on March 8, 2026.

Born in Lalinac, PR Serbia, FPR Yugoslavia, on January 6, 1955, he was awarded the grandmaster title in 1978 and later became a FIDE Senior Trainer in 2004. Marjanović won the Yugoslav Chess Championship in 1985 and was part of the Yugoslav team that won bronze at the 1980 Chess Olympiad.

He also won the Yugoslav Junior Chess Championship three years in a row from 1971 to 1973 and took first place in international tournaments in Belgrade, Vrnjačka Banja and Rome.

Slavoljub Marjanović (Serbian: Славољуб Марјановић; 6 January 1955 – 8 March 2026) was a Serbian chess Grandmaster (GM) (1978), Yugoslav Chess Championship winner (1985), Chess Olympiad team bronze medal winner (1980), and FIDE Senior Trainer (2004).
