Sir Alex Younger, the British intelligence officer who led the Secret Intelligence Service from 2014 to 2020, died on June 3, 2026.
Born Alexander William Younger on July 4, 1963, in Westminster, he was educated at Marlborough College and the University of St Andrews, where he studied economics. He was the longest-serving MI6 chief in 50 years after the government extended his contract in 2019 to preserve continuity during the Brexit negotiations.
Younger, who was of Scottish heritage, was known formally as Sir Alexander William Younger KCMG.
