Luís Carlos da Silva Matos, a Brazilian footballer known as Silva, died on May 11, 2026.
He was 67. A forward, Silva emerged in Botafogo’s youth system and played for the club in the early 1980s.
He also had successful spells on loan with América de Natal and ABC in Rio Grande do Norte, and later won the Ceará championship with Fortaleza in 1985. Silva was part of Brazil’s Olympic team in 1979, when it won the San Juan Pan American Games, and he was among the tournament’s top scorers. He also took part in the 1980 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament and ended his career in the Federal District in the early 1990s.
