Sid Ahmed Agoumi, the Algerian actor also known as Sid Ahmed Méziane, died on September 20, 2026, aged 86.
Born on October 5, 1940, in Bologhine, near Algiers, he began his career in the 1960s and went on to work across theatre, television and cinema. Over the course of a long career, he appeared in more than 50 films, including Costa-Gavras’s Z, and later held cultural and theatrical posts in Algeria, among them leadership roles at the Maison de la Culture and Theatre in Tizi Ouzou, the National Algerian Theatre, and the regional theatres of Annaba and Constantine.
He later continued acting in France and also voiced the work of writers and poets including Jean Sénac, Mouloud Feraoun, Rachid Mimouni, Benamar Mediene and Kateb Yacine.
