Sheila Mitchell dead at age 100, Z-Cars, Grange Hill) and author

Sheila Mitchell, a British actress and author known for her work in Lillie, Z-Cars and Grange Hill, died on June 4, 2026, aged 100.

Born Sheila Mary Mitchell in Kingston-upon-Thames in June 1925, she spent the last two years of the Second World War in the Women’s Royal Naval Service working at Bletchley Park. She later trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and built a career across stage, radio and television, including work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Prospect at the Old Vic and in West End productions.

Her writing came late in life, with her first book appearing when she was nearly 95.
