Seumas McSporran Scottish multiple worker dead at age 88

Seumas McSporran, the Scottish multiple worker who was known for holding 14 jobs over 31 years on the Isle of Gigha, died on February 15, 2026, aged 88.

Born James Alexander Graham McSporran on Gigha on January 9, 1938, he began working in 1965 as postmaster and shopkeeper and gradually added responsibilities on the island. His roles included ambulance, bus and taxi driver, school-bus driver, boatman, accountant, guesthouse proprietor, firefighter unit leader, assurance agent, petrol pump attendant, pier master, police officer, sub-postmaster, registrar of births, marriages and deaths, and rent collector.
