
Ryan Porter, an American jazz trombonist, died on May 16, 2026, from injuries sustained in a traffic collision.
He was 46. Based in Los Angeles, Porter was a founding member of the West Coast Get Down jazz collective and a longtime collaborator of saxophonist Kamasi Washington.
He also toured with Stevie Wonder, Rihanna, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Lauryn Hill, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Born in Los Angeles on July 31, 1979, he was introduced to jazz by his grandfather’s record collection and later joined the Multi-School Jazz Band in Watts while in high school.
