Pilar Malla Escofet, a Spanish social worker, teacher and public administrator who served as Barcelona’s first ombudsman and later as a member of the Parliament of Catalonia, died on September 16, 2026, aged 95.
Born in El Pont d’Armentera on September 9, 1931, she was trained in social work and became known for her work in social services, including a long period at Cáritas Barcelona. She also spent 11 years in France working with Spanish emigrants, in health centers, and in the Foreign Labor Social Service and the International Social Service.
From 1969 to 1990, she taught social work at the School of Social Work of the Institut Catòlic d’Estudis Socials de Barcelona (ICESB).
