Philippe Mpay, a Cameroonian army officer who rose to the rank of major general, died on May 9, 2026, in Yaoundé, Cameroon, at the age of 86 or 87.
Born in 1939 in Nguibassal, in the Nyong-et-Kéllé department of French Cameroon, he served in the Cameroonian Armed Forces and held several operational, administrative and training commands. His postings included leadership of military regions, the Operational Command of Douala, and the Combined Arms Military Schools and Training Centres.
He completed his primary education in Libamba and Makak, attended Lycée Joss in Douala and Lycée Général-Leclerc in Yaoundé, and earned a baccalaureate in philosophy in Brazzaville in 1960.
