Nikke Ström dead at age 75, complications from heart surgery

Nikke Ström, the Swedish musician best known as bassist for Nationalteatern, died on June 8, 2026, from complications of heart surgery.

He was 75. Born in Karlskoga on June 8, 1951, Ström played in local bands before moving to Gothenburg in 1971, where he joined leftist progg groups including Nynningen.

He studied philosophy at Stockholm University in the early 1970s and was politically active in the anti-Vietnam War movement, serving as chairman of the FNL group in Karlskoga. In 1977 he took part in the Tent Project, the touring musical theater work about Swedish labor history, and later that year became part of Nationalteatern’s rock orchestra.
