Milan Panić, the Serbian businessman, humanitarian and politician who served as prime minister of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, died on September 24, 2026, aged 96.
Born in Belgrade in 1929, he built a career in business and philanthropy after studying at the University of Belgrade and Heidelberg University. As Yugoslavia’s prime minister from 1992 to 1993, he also ran for president of Serbia in 1992, finishing second to Slobodan Milošević in a contest marked by allegations of media and vote tampering.
During and after his time in office, Panić campaigned for peace and democracy in the Balkans, and he later remained involved in humanitarian work.
