Michael J.
Flynn, an American computer scientist and professor emeritus at Stanford University, died on December 24, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Jamaica, New York, Flynn attended Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School before earning a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan University in 1955.
He later received a master’s degree from Syracuse University in 1960 and a PhD from Purdue University in 1961. In 1966, he proposed Flynn’s taxonomy, a method of classifying parallel digital computers.
