M. Ravi Singaporean human rights activist dead at age 56

Ravi, a Singaporean human rights lawyer and activist, died on December 24, 2025, aged 56. Born Ravi Madasamy on April 9, 1969, in Singapore, he qualified and practised law after graduating from the National University of Singapore and Cardiff University.

He was known as a cause lawyer and appeared in several leading cases in Singaporean constitutional law and human rights. Ravi acted as defence counsel for death row inmates Yong Vui Kong, Gobi Avedian and Cheong Chun Yin, whose death sentences were separately commuted to jail terms. He also campaigned on death penalty abolition and LGBT rights, and ran as a Reform Party candidate in the 2015 general election.

Ravi Madasamy (9 April 1969 – 24 December 2025), better known as M. Ravi, was a Singaporean international human rights lawyer and activist. Known for his work as a cause lawyer, he acted in multiple leading cases in Singaporean constitutional law and human rights.
