Messan Hilaire Locoh-Donou, a Togolese architect, urban planner, lecturer and hotelier, died in Lomé on October 4, 2026.

He studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris before returning to Togo, where he worked in architecture and urban planning. In 1973, he founded AUBA in Lomé, a firm whose work covered architecture, urban planning and technical studies.

A project associated with the practice was the former headquarters of Banque togolaise pour le commerce et l’industrie (BTCI). Alongside his professional work, Locoh-Donou taught architecture for several years at the École africaine des métiers de l’architecture et de l’urbanisme (EAMAU). His career thus included architectural practice as well as teaching in the field. He also founded the Eda-Oba hotel in Lomé, extending his work into the hotel business. The property offered about 200 rooms, restaurants and conference facilities, combining accommodation, dining and meeting services at one site. Eda-Oba suspended operations in 2021 after tourism collapsed during the COVID-19 pandemic. His work ranged across the design and planning of the built environment, architectural education and hotel operations in the Togolese capital.
