Clément Atangana, a Cameroonian magistrate who served as a counsellor of the Supreme Court from 1991 to 2014, died in Paris on October 4, 2026, aged 85.

He was born in Ekoumeyeck, in what was then French Cameroon, on September 20, 1941. Atangana earned a licentiate in private law from the University of Yaoundé and also studied at the National School of Administration and Magistracy and the Institut international d’administration publique.

He became a judge on December 20, 1968, and served on various tribunals before his nomination to the Supreme Court in 1991. His appointment as a counsellor placed him on the court for more than two decades, until 2014. His career included judicial service at tribunals and at the Supreme Court, alongside formal training in law, administration and magistracy. The dates of his entry into the judiciary and his Supreme Court service mark distinct stages of his professional life: he began as a judge in 1968 and joined the court as a counsellor in 1991. Atangana died in Paris at the age of 85.
