Born Sidney Mark Carrington on August 19, 1961, in Gisborne, he played for Northern Districts in the 1980s and also represented Poverty Bay in the Hawke Cup. He was educated at Gisborne Boys’ High School and was among the first people of Māori descent to represent Northern Districts.
