María Elena Carrera, Chilean politician and senator, died on May 22, 2026, at the age of 97.
Born in Santiago on January 2, 1929, she served in the Senate of Chile from 1969 to 1973 and again from 1993 to 1998. Carrera was also a physician.
She was married to former senator Salomón Corbalán, and they had three children: Patricio, Alejandra, and Andrés.
