Liu Zaifu dead at age 84, Chinese writer and poet

Liu Zaifu

Liu Zaifu, a Chinese writer, poet and academic known for Farewell to Revolution, died on May 24, 2026, at the age of 84.

He was also known for his work on Reflections on Dream of the Red Chamber, an analysis of the Chinese classic Dream of the Red Chamber. Born in 1941 in Nan’an, Quanzhou, Fujian, he studied Chinese literature at Xiamen University.

After graduating, he became editor-in-chief of Wenxue Pinglun, a Chinese literary periodical, and later worked as an editor for the Beijing-based magazine New Construction.
